Hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with Hitachi Rail Europe, the FT Executive Forum: Meeting Passenger Railway Challenges, brought together key government officials, rail industry experts and business leaders to examine and discuss the policies, strategies and investments that are needed to meet German and European passenger railway challenges.
Critical issues that were explored included:
- Overview of the German rail industry: current challenges and future opportunities
- Strategies and investments needed to increase the reliability of rolling stock and to minimise current technical concerns
- Maintaining reliability, safety and performance in German rail
- Gaining public acceptance in light of efficiency-related complaints, for new infrastructure projects and system improvements
- Lessons learned from global rail operators
