ONE OF THE LAST MAJOR INTERNATIONAL GATHERINGS OF SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION-MAKERS BEFORE THE CRUCIAL CLIMATE CONFERENCE IN COPENHAGEN
The China Energy and Environment Summit, organised by the Financial Times and the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), will discuss the massive environmental challenges facing China, the latest developments in its clean energy policy, and the potential not only for agreement in Copenhagen but also for longer-term international cooperation to ensure the renewable energy solutions being developed can reach their full potential.
Will China position itself as a global leader in clean technology? Can the environment remain a priority when the economy is under pressure and demand for energy continues to grow? This agenda-setting Summit will bring together senior officials from governments and multilateral institutions, environmentalists, investors and industrialists to discuss in detail the clean energy solutions already being implemented in China, the new alternatives and technologies being considered, and how these responses could have a major impact on international efforts to fight global warming.
Themes to be covered at the summit include:
- China environmental policy and the continued search for energy security
- Wind power, solar power and other sustainable solutions
- Clean coal - will carbon capture and storage become viable for China?
- Power generation - smart grids: a massive but essential undertaking
- Green buildings and eco-cities - the answer to massive urbanisation?
- Electric cars - China's bid for global dominance
- Gas - an increasing part of the mix, but how should it be priced?
- Nuclear energy - in focus, but can it have a major impact?
- Clean technology financing - the role of banks, green funds, venture capital and the carbon markets
